Fit-aroma MONGE VETSOLUTION FELINE URINARY STRUVITE contains cranberry extract. Although sterile struvites are the most common type in adult cats, only about one-third (28.6%) of cats diagnosed with urolithiasis exhibit significant bacteriuria. Escherichia coli is the most common bacteria found in half or one-third of infections. Struvite uroliths can be dissolved by acidifying urine, increasing urine volume, and feeding low magnesium and phosphorus diets, although urine acidifiers do not protect against bacterial urinary infections.

Fit-aroma MONGE VETSOLUTION FELINE URINARY STRUVITE contains cranberry extract, rich in proanthocyanidins (PACs). PACs block adhesins (virulent factors involved in bacterial attachment to urinary tract epithelial cells) due to their unique molecular structure. They act on various adhesin types, inhibiting them (MR and MS adhesins) on hair-like fimbriae protruding from the bacterial surface.

Fructose inhibits MS fimbrial adhesins, while a high molecular weight inhibitor neutralizes MS adhesins, protecting the bladder from colonization. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins can protect struvite medium from peroxidative damage, restoring intracellular antioxidant enzyme activity, supporting SOD effectiveness. The average dissolution time is 8 weeks for infection-induced struvites and 2 to 4 weeks for sterile struvites.

The diet is low in magnesium to limit crystal formation and protect against recurrence of uroliths.

The recommended daily dose in grams can be provided continuously or given in at least two meals. Consistent food availability encourages cats to increase meal frequency, thus reducing postprandial alkaline response and the risk of struvite crystal formation.
