MONGE VETSOLUTION FELINE OBESITY contains psyllium husks, which delay gastric emptying, thereby simulating a feeling of fullness. In cats, the time for gastric emptying after fasting is approximately 25 minutes. The degree of filling of the gastrointestinal tract is one of the most important signals from the digestive system to trigger satiety.

Adult cats have a tendency to maintain a consistently regulated metabolism for weeks or longer, but when food intake is restricted, the basal metabolic rate decreases, leading to weight loss.

Psyllium husks are a mixture of neutral and acidic polysaccharides with a soluble/insoluble fiber ratio of 70/30. Being a bulk-forming agent, psyllium husks absorb water and fill the intestines with a gel-like mass. Psyllium’s mechanical action delays nutrient absorption, inhibiting postprandial hyperglycemia, which, though limited in cats, can contribute to the development of insulin resistance and diabetes.
