California Mastitis Test (CMT)
The Diafarm CMT test is used for the immediate detection of somatic cell counts in milk. The Diafarm CMT should also be used to check somatic cell counts after mastitis treatment.
The Diafarm CMT test should not be used when the cow is producing colostrum and should not be used before the third day after calving.
The Diafarm CMT test should not be used after the onset of the hardening period.
Diafarm CMT test solution is an in vitro diagnostic test that does not give a conclusive answer but predicts the result with a high degree of probability - by reference to samples taken from a symptomatic animal. The test cannot be considered as a definitive diagnosis.
The Diafarm CMT test should be stored at room temperature and protected from sunlight. DO NOT FREEZE.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERFORMING THE TEST:
Clean each bean separately.
Rinse the first milk stream.
Draw a sample of milk from each quarter into a separate compartment of the test spatula.
Pour off excess milk to leave 2-3 ml of milk (approx. ½ teaspoon) for reaction with equal amounts of Diafarm CMT-test.
Add 2-3 ml of the Diafarm CMT test to each compartment.
By making circular movements with the test spatula, the contents will be mixed. At the same time observe whether there is a change in the viscosity of the mixture. Read the result within 10 seconds. After a short time the reaction may disappear. If in doubt, the test must be repeated.
After each test the spatula must be rinsed thoroughly.

EVALUATING THE RESULT:
Negative result: The solution remains watery, blue-grey in colour and homogeneous. No thickening. Assessment: Probably no inflammation.
Weak positive result: Slight thickening of the solution, reaction may disappear (after approx. 10 seconds) Assessment: mastitis suspected.
Positive result: Thickening, the solution may become gelatinous. Assessment: mastitis.
Strongly positive result: Solution hardens, gels and becomes very viscous. Assessment: mastitis.
